Prof. Philliph Mutisya of Raleigh, NC USA is in Kenya to start Diaspora University academic founder job. He’ll in the months of February to April 2025 prepare all the required documents for submission to the Commission of University Education (CUE). Thereafter from May to December 2025, his job is to oversee the starting of Diaspora University administration system, schools, departments, library and the enrolment of the Diaspora University first class. By the close of the year about 100 persons will be working at Diaspora University as they prepare to welcome the first class 2026. Prof. Mutisya says, “I'm very excited to start my Diaspora University jobs and to start creating jobs.”

The Diaspora University development by Diaspora University Trust is currently ongoing in Taita Taveta County. The plan incorporates the development of: Diaspora University, Diaspora University Town, Diaspora University medical hospital, Residential property and 300 MSMEs.

Dan Kamau, the Diaspora University Trust – Executive Trustee who is formerly of Worcester, MA is happy to have Prof. Mutisya join him in Kenya. He says the Diaspora University Trust endowment is valued at Ksh 3.8 billion as per financial balance sheet of 2024. He adds that the development plan he is enacting will grow this endowment to Ksh 20 billion as 15,000 jobs are created as follows: University, 1,000 jobs; Town, 500 jobs; Hospital, 1,500 jobs and 300 MSMEs, 12,000 jobs.

The Diaspora University education system is from the WPI project based learning approach. The university will also work closely with MSMEs on jobs creation and education in Kenya and Africa.

Dan is also the Diaspora University Town – Project Director. In this role he will deliver Diaspora University learning buildings and residential townhouses for staff and students.

He says, “I’m happy that Prof. Mutisya will this year put in about 1,500 professional hours to progress the Diaspora University Plan and develop Kenya.”

Prof. Mutisya on his part is ready to put in the time. He will put in about 500 hours in the preparation of documents to submit to CUE. He will thereafter put in over 1,000 hours to have everything that is required so the first class can join the university.

About 100 jobs will be created as the first class enters the Diaspora University. Prof. Mutisya says, “Diaspora Kenyans join us and take some of these jobs."

He adds that Diaspora Kenyans through Diaspora University will advance jobs creation as they create jobs for themselves and for Kenyans in Kenya.
